Green Living at Byron Park
Byron Park has had a commitment to conservation and recycling for many years, using biodegradable laundry detergents, cleaning products, and recycled paper products. Recycling receptacles for glass, plastic and cans are located in recycling centers on every floor of the facility, and collection systems are in place for recycling household batteries, hearing aids, library books, eyeglasses, printer cartridges, office paper, newspapers and cardboard, and mercury thermometers.

Electronic waste drives are held periodically, and resident volunteers collect unwanted items to re-sell at special “garage sales” to raise funds for scholarships to benefit high school and college students who work part time at Byron Park.

Byron Park also participates in a program with the Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority to convert food waste into electricity. An innovative processing technique creates methane gas from our food waste, which is then burned to propel turbines that produce electricity.

Byron Park is proud to do its part to conserve resources and contribute to preserving the environment.
